10 Facts No One Tells You About Living in Mexico City.

My top 10 facts no one tell’s you about living in Mexico City.

  1. PDA– also known as public display of affection. WOW! Let me tell you it takes some time to get used to. You kind of look at them at first and cringe in a similar fashion you look at your sister when she eats your food. Yeah. Well a large of people in CDMX are in love and really like to show it.

  2. Street Dances– if you’re broke and have no money to hit the club. DO NOT WORRY you can dance to cumbia, salsa, bachata etc right under a bridge near you. Actually if you’re wondering it is pretty LIT.

  3. Que Chido– chilangolandia has a large amount of slang and if you don’t know it then you should probably study up on that before you arrive.

  4. Metro– well ladies and gentlemen you have not seen weird stuff until you ride the Mexico City metro. You will also find there is a separate area just for women to ride.

  5. Street Food– You love tacos? Great me too! Just please make sure you go somewhere suggested by a friend or family member. Or you may not be feeling so well afterwards. However, don’t worry to much because the Tacos their are delicious!

  6. Street Art– here you will find some of the most beautiful graffiti with stories that go along with each of them.

  7. Don’t be Afraid– people have heard so many stories from social media it masks a perception but really its not always like that. I was always very safe. There will always be places that are safe and unsafe in any big city. Moral of the story just enjoy your surroundings I mean you’re in MEXICO.

  8. La Panadería- if you want the best bread go around 6/7 pm. They bake it fresh and the whole neighborhood will be racing to get some of it. So, hurry before its gone. If you go before this time the bread may feel like an actual rock.

  9. Fiesta- there will be a party for every occasion. Have a baby; party. Your primo comes over; party.

  10. The Mexican Favelas– go to the right area in Mexico City and you will find the favelas looking like the ones in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. In CDMX there is a large distinction between the rich and the poor. As you may find the rich in Santa Fe the place I call little Los Angeles.

Hope you enjoyed what I could think of off the top of my head. In all Mexico City is my second home and will always be my favorite place to live. Feel free to comment or subscribe to my blog for more. Adios!

Welcome to 2o17

Greetings from Mexico,

Today I have officially been living in Mexico City for a little over a month which seems to feel like an eternity. I really enjoy living here and my Spanish is improving slowly but surely. It is very surprising how much you can still survive without knowing the language proficiently. Anyway, I have no idea where the next months will bring me but I will keep you updated. Much love. Xoxo.

I’m Back with a Surprise

Hey!

How is it going? Good? Well, I’m glad to hear that. I have not been writing in my blog very frequently due to life and such. This time around I want to make more of an effort to get back to blogging more. As it is something I enjoy very much.

These past few months have had many ups and downs, it has been crazy. Since graduating college in May well you could say things didn’t go as planned. That is alright though because I learned that everything happens for a reason, some things are not meant to work out.

It is especially difficult as my pursuit is unlike others whom hold the american dream dear to their heart. That is not my ideal life. My journey has been interesting one could say and some call me crazy but that is okay. My dreams are my dreams and I refuse to let others opinions change what I want. Other people will always have something to say no matter what you do. That is why I just don’t care what others think because in reality they are just unfulfilled with their own lives.

The year 2016 has ultimately been like getting hit by a plane but yet one of my best years at the same time. I traveled to places I would have never imagined in my wildest dreams. I once stood looking over an Island in Croatia and that’s where I promised myself to always follow my dreams and travel the world. I am thankful for everything because in the end it was a huge learning experience for me.

Just know if you’re a recent college graduate you may be confused and lost but don’t worry I have been there and you will figure it out. All in time my friend.

Stay tuned: I will be having a surprise for everyone

Sky High Plane Tickets, Get Them for Cheap!

Have you ever dreamed of traveling but felt discouraged as you searched the plane ticket prices? Fear not, there is ways to get cheaper flight tickets. Here is a few tips for that vacation you have been dreaming of.

  1. Plan ahead of time, this will give you time to receive a ticket at a cheaper price.
  2. Use multiple air travel websites to compare prices. My favorite is Skyscanner. Others include: Cheap O Air, Priceline, Kayak, and more.
  3. Get your ticket(s) on the right day. Try to buy on Tuesday or Wednesday it could save you big time.
  4. Don’t get a one way to your destination. What does this mean? Think about buying two separate tickets to get to your destination. If you’re going to different countries sometimes this helps cut the cost a lot.
  5. If you travel a lot get a credit card through one of the airlines and gain reward points. Maybe get a free flight to the destination of your dreams.
  6. Check the season. Is it high tide or low tide season at the destination you wish to go to? This will make a big difference in price.

Hope these tips help! Safe travels!

Mexico? Life?

Hello hello!

How is everyone? Good? Living? Recently I spoke of how I really don’t know what I’m doing. I had a thought of moving to Mexico…then an issue arose. I found it is very hard for people/Americans to find a job there and if they do it probably won’t pay well. You usually do not see Americans going to work in Mexico because of this issue. Mostly for vacation. The cost of living in DF is kind of high compared to other places in Mexico. You can relate it to living in Los Angeles but with its own spin. My job hunt ended rather…well you can say disappointing. For now I think my best bet will just be visiting as much as I can. Maybe, live there for a short period of time. Who knows!

Thought of the day: just because things don’t work out, doesn’t mean you should give up.

Chaos

Hello!

It has been some while since I have written, two months roughly. Right now my life is in a bit of a chaos. The high from traveling is no more and I am beginning to see reality. Right now my travel plans are on hold as I am unsure of where I will be going or if I am going. I think at this point in my life I have many things to figure out, then maybe I can travel. No matter where you run or go your problems will follow.

I think all college graduates go through this, an initial reaction of wtf am I doing with my life? It’s one of those things that is not talked about much, people just say enjoy your years of college as it will be the best years of your life. When you’re in college you think no way how can this be the best years of my life? Quizzes, tests, research that’s no fun (sarcasm). When you look back though you will realize it really was, the best years of your life. College was one of the best learning experiences and I made life long friends that made it even better.

Now, I can only hope and pray for the best to come. As my future is unknown but I will keep looking for what is right. Remember, always do what makes you happy!

My life is a movie?

Only 2 days left before I return home. It’s crazy how fast time goes. Summer is almost over and soon I’ll have to start my real adult life. I still cant believe I graduated college and will not be returning.

Lately, I have been thinking a lot of what we humans are really capable of which is anything. We can learn to adapt to so many different things it’s amazing. When people say that what you wanna do is impossible, it is possible. When you know what you want you will do anything to get there, even if that involves momentarily discomfort. I am very excited to begin this new chapter in my life. I want to learn how to speak different languages, meet new friends, achieve my traveling dream etc. I know this new chapter means I will win some and loose some. I will loose friends, meet new ones, find bad ones, but eventually find those who are great for me. I hope to be more involved with my family and be great full for all I have.

Ending note..go to Croatia it is the most beautiful country I have ever been to! I really love Split and Dubrovnik has very great islands and history. Budapest is also one of my favorites it’s a hidden gem! Sometimes this all seems like a dream and it is unbelievable! I am so happy I did this I will never forget.

Croatia🌴

Today is July 16th,

My trip is almost over but I am ready to return home and begin my new life. I found backpacking is quite the experience but I more enjoy staying in one place at a time for a certain time period. I am excited to go home and eat loads of ketchup and drive a car yet again. Plus not being lost all the time lol.

What have I learned from backpacking? I learned that anything in life is possible if you want it enough. Dreams only come true if you make them. People always say o my gosh you’re so lucky to go there and there. However, traveling is not always cake and ice cream. There is difficulties such as being lost, not being able to find your hostel, not knowing what the hell people are saying, missing your flight, paying extra fees or hidden fees. I find now through most situations i just stay very calm and accept the fact that it’s happening, as long as I tried there is no more I can do. You must accept the things you cannot change.

On another note, traveling is a lesson and a great experience. I have now seen some very beautiful places that not many people see. I am blessed as not everyone has this opportunity. I have met great people from all walks of life and made some great memories. I also learned how much I take things for granted when I don’t have it. I have only about 100 dollars left and its interesting trying to make it all work. Though it would be nice to just to go straight back to Mexico or Barcelona to live, I can’t. Unfortunately, in life you have to work for what you want. I have hopes of moving to one of these places in the near future. Just know anything is possible. Money is important but it doesn’t need to determine your happiness.

Service announcement if you have not yet been to Croatia, GO!!!!

Xoxo,

Alanna

Amsterdam xxx

It’s currently 2:50 am and Iam sitting at Starbucks inside the Amsterdam airport. In a few hours Iam going to Barcelona. Btw Starbucks here has way better flavors just saying.

Let’s talk about the trip so far. On late Saturday I went to the airport at about 3am. I left Mexico and got to Fort Lauderdale at about 9am. I then sat at that airport until 10pm. Ya I know crazy long time. Then I flew and got to Copenhagen at about one. Then finally arrived to Amsterdam around 6pm. It felt like the longest trip of my life. I had met a girl from England on the way to my hostel she was hilarious. She actually came with me to help find my hostel. Which we laughed when I found my hostel was in the red light district.

My first night I met two girls from Denmark.  We went out and walked through the red light district. It was pretty awesome and full of life and activity. Here there is many coffee shops, food, tattoos, and whatever possible. The streets were packed like walking through Times Square but only through a more narrow road. I found a shop only dedicated to ducks and cows lol. There is also many cheese shops and it tastes so wonderful here.

The second day. I actually met a girl from Houston and she gave me some travel tips. I then went on a free tour of the city. After I ate some popular Dutch food. Which was good I love there things that look like waffle cookies haha. The supermarkets here have some really delicious food and it’s incredibly cheap. I tried this chocolate with Oreos and it was so good!!! I also then went to the ice bar. This was cool they gave you some free drinks and you could freeze for a bit. We then went looking for this bar and on the way it started raining. We then got lost and I was drenched, when we finally found it the line was so long!

Today, I woke up and had to hurry and check out of the hostel. Which I recommend if you ever stay in Amsterdam go to the youth hostel meeting point. It’s a great place to stay and good beds. After checking out I was supposed to go to a canal tour. I was going then I got lost lol. I said f it and ventured to find the Amsterdam sign. And vondal park I believe it’s called. I  really love that park it’s so soothing. I sat there and ate bread while looking over a pond.

The architecture is amazing in Amsterdam. You will see some houses lean forwards or some are just leaning. If they lean forward it was done on purpose to help get things through the window. If sunk and leaning that just means to much moisture happened beneath. I will be back on Monday. I can say this has been amazing and still hard to believe it’s actually happening. Much love!

Adios…

Time has flown by I can’t believe it. Living in Mexico was one of the most difficult but best experiences I have ever had. I will be back as I have hopes of living here soon. For now I am just trying not to have a heart attack because I leave tonight. This is my first big travel and I will be alone for a few days. I’m trying to stay calm and go with the flow.

Yesterday, my family had a fiesta for me and it was fabulous. I ate so much food it was dangerous haha seriously. Let me just say here in Mexico I eat a lot…and we had cake which was fabulous as always. We danced and ate a lot plus took many photos.

On Thursday, we went to a museum. And ate ice cream which was okay. It was American so it tastes differently here. Other than that I haven’t done much. I play a lot of basketball with my cousin..just a few updates so talk later or as soon as possible!
