Preparing For Long Term Travel
Not everyday does someone say they’re leaving the country and not coming back for some months and even years. Most of the average population would call you crazy. Everyone wants to travel but who actually does? You! Yes, You!
What I really want to focus on talking about today is the mental aspect of this. It can be one of the most important factors. When you tell your family and friends you’re planning this trip you expect the best response. However, sometimes that is not always the case. You must prepare for the best and worst outcome.
Many traveler’s may experience disapproval from their family or friends. This can be hard to swallow. What you should not do is take it to heart. If this is something you want to do go ahead and do it! If you let others opinion’s effect your decisions you will never be happy in life. It’s a shame some people feel so opinionated on what you do. Always follow your heart and dreams! No matter what!
Now, since I got that out there you’re probably thinking okay where are the other tips? All I can say is plan but in moderation. What works best for me is planning the first few destinations then just going with the flow. Why do I do this? If you’re backpacking you might be somewhere and totally change your itinerary so sometimes it is best to have leeway. Last tip: the money. Save money like your grandmother told you and save, save, save. Cut expenses like eating out and unnecessary buying.
I hope you enjoyed this little bit! Remember, travel smart, and live easy! Please comment and let me know your experience’s or tips! I would love to hear them!
I live this life not to conform to what others want but rather to follow the passion in my heart and soul. – Alanna
My top 10 facts no one tell’s you about living in Mexico City.
PDA– also known as public display of affection. WOW! Let me tell you it takes some time to get used to. You kind of look at them at first and cringe in a similar fashion you look at your sister when she eats your food. Yeah. Well a large of people in CDMX are in love and really like to show it.
Street Dances– if you’re broke and have no money to hit the club. DO NOT WORRY you can dance to cumbia, salsa, bachata etc right under a bridge near you. Actually if you’re wondering it is pretty LIT.
Que Chido– chilangolandia has a large amount of slang and if you don’t know it then you should probably study up on that before you arrive.
Metro– well ladies and gentlemen you have not seen weird stuff until you ride the Mexico City metro. You will also find there is a separate area just for women to ride.
Street Food– You love tacos? Great me too! Just please make sure you go somewhere suggested by a friend or family member. Or you may not be feeling so well afterwards. However, don’t worry to much because the Tacos their are delicious!
Street Art– here you will find some of the most beautiful graffiti with stories that go along with each of them.
Don’t be Afraid– people have heard so many stories from social media it masks a perception but really its not always like that. I was always very safe. There will always be places that are safe and unsafe in any big city. Moral of the story just enjoy your surroundings I mean you’re in MEXICO.
La Panadería- if you want the best bread go around 6/7 pm. They bake it fresh and the whole neighborhood will be racing to get some of it. So, hurry before its gone. If you go before this time the bread may feel like an actual rock.
Fiesta- there will be a party for every occasion. Have a baby; party. Your primo comes over; party.
The Mexican Favelas– go to the right area in Mexico City and you will find the favelas looking like the ones in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. In CDMX there is a large distinction between the rich and the poor. As you may find the rich in Santa Fe the place I call little Los Angeles.
Hope you enjoyed what I could think of off the top of my head. In all Mexico City is my second home and will always be my favorite place to live. Feel free to comment or subscribe to my blog for more. Adios!
Greetings from Mexico,
Today I have officially been living in Mexico City for a little over a month which seems to feel like an eternity. I really enjoy living here and my Spanish is improving slowly but surely. It is very surprising how much you can still survive without knowing the language proficiently. Anyway, I have no idea where the next months will bring me but I will keep you updated. Much love. Xoxo.
How is it going? Good? Well, I’m glad to hear that. I have not been writing in my blog very frequently due to life and such. This time around I want to make more of an effort to get back to blogging more. As it is something I enjoy very much.
These past few months have had many ups and downs, it has been crazy. Since graduating college in May well you could say things didn’t go as planned. That is alright though because I learned that everything happens for a reason, some things are not meant to work out.
It is especially difficult as my pursuit is unlike others whom hold the american dream dear to their heart. That is not my ideal life. My journey has been interesting one could say and some call me crazy but that is okay. My dreams are my dreams and I refuse to let others opinions change what I want. Other people will always have something to say no matter what you do. That is why I just don’t care what others think because in reality they are just unfulfilled with their own lives.
The year 2016 has ultimately been like getting hit by a plane but yet one of my best years at the same time. I traveled to places I would have never imagined in my wildest dreams. I once stood looking over an Island in Croatia and that’s where I promised myself to always follow my dreams and travel the world. I am thankful for everything because in the end it was a huge learning experience for me.
Just know if you’re a recent college graduate you may be confused and lost but don’t worry I have been there and you will figure it out. All in time my friend.
Stay tuned: I will be having a surprise for everyone

As many of you have seen Americas new fate, we begin this new era. Americans are afraid, sad, and really..devastated. We made jokes of this in the past but now this is our fate. It is no longer funny as people fear their lives and equality in America. This morning when I heard the news I shed a tear. Our new president who is a racist bigot let me remind you who belittles women and does not want rights for the LGBTQ community. All day I have avoided social media, fleeing the truth of what has happened. Tonight, I looked on social media once again and seen dozens and dozens of stories of racial discrimination. As a person who is an American born citizen but is half Mexican I know my looks change people’s perspective of who I am. Racism in America has been hidden for so many years but now is showing its true colors again despite our new president. Our president who enables these people and pretty much tells them hey it’s okay to be racist. When it is not. I fear the equality for my niece and nephew who will have to face this head on. Today, my sister told me she had to explain to her children what racism is, that truly breaks my heart. I hope Americans stay strong and fight for our rights. Remember, we are all equal no matter the color, sex, origin, etc. We are one.
Have you ever dreamed of traveling but felt discouraged as you searched the plane ticket prices? Fear not, there is ways to get cheaper flight tickets. Here is a few tips for that vacation you have been dreaming of.
- Plan ahead of time, this will give you time to receive a ticket at a cheaper price.
- Use multiple air travel websites to compare prices. My favorite is Skyscanner. Others include: Cheap O Air, Priceline, Kayak, and more.
- Get your ticket(s) on the right day. Try to buy on Tuesday or Wednesday it could save you big time.
- Don’t get a one way to your destination. What does this mean? Think about buying two separate tickets to get to your destination. If you’re going to different countries sometimes this helps cut the cost a lot.
- If you travel a lot get a credit card through one of the airlines and gain reward points. Maybe get a free flight to the destination of your dreams.
- Check the season. Is it high tide or low tide season at the destination you wish to go to? This will make a big difference in price.
Hope these tips help! Safe travels!
How is everyone? Good? Living? Recently I spoke of how I really don’t know what I’m doing. I had a thought of moving to Mexico…then an issue arose. I found it is very hard for people/Americans to find a job there and if they do it probably won’t pay well. You usually do not see Americans going to work in Mexico because of this issue. Mostly for vacation. The cost of living in DF is kind of high compared to other places in Mexico. You can relate it to living in Los Angeles but with its own spin. My job hunt ended rather…well you can say disappointing. For now I think my best bet will just be visiting as much as I can. Maybe, live there for a short period of time. Who knows!
Thought of the day: just because things don’t work out, doesn’t mean you should give up.
It has been some while since I have written, two months roughly. Right now my life is in a bit of a chaos. The high from traveling is no more and I am beginning to see reality. Right now my travel plans are on hold as I am unsure of where I will be going or if I am going. I think at this point in my life I have many things to figure out, then maybe I can travel. No matter where you run or go your problems will follow.
I think all college graduates go through this, an initial reaction of wtf am I doing with my life? It’s one of those things that is not talked about much, people just say enjoy your years of college as it will be the best years of your life. When you’re in college you think no way how can this be the best years of my life? Quizzes, tests, research that’s no fun (sarcasm). When you look back though you will realize it really was, the best years of your life. College was one of the best learning experiences and I made life long friends that made it even better.
Now, I can only hope and pray for the best to come. As my future is unknown but I will keep looking for what is right. Remember, always do what makes you happy!
Hello ladies and gentlemen!
Wow how is everyone?! Great I hope! I am now back home in the United States. It has been almost one week home and I am more ready then ever to go back on my adventure. However, we all know that’s not how life flows. Of course I have to go get a job and work for a while then back on the road I go! Here is some photos from my trip. Also, if you’re reading this comment if you want me to write about anything more specific. Places, food, tacos jk, just let me know!
Only 2 days left before I return home. It’s crazy how fast time goes. Summer is almost over and soon I’ll have to start my real adult life. I still cant believe I graduated college and will not be returning.
Lately, I have been thinking a lot of what we humans are really capable of which is anything. We can learn to adapt to so many different things it’s amazing. When people say that what you wanna do is impossible, it is possible. When you know what you want you will do anything to get there, even if that involves momentarily discomfort. I am very excited to begin this new chapter in my life. I want to learn how to speak different languages, meet new friends, achieve my traveling dream etc. I know this new chapter means I will win some and loose some. I will loose friends, meet new ones, find bad ones, but eventually find those who are great for me. I hope to be more involved with my family and be great full for all I have.
Ending note..go to Croatia it is the most beautiful country I have ever been to! I really love Split and Dubrovnik has very great islands and history. Budapest is also one of my favorites it’s a hidden gem! Sometimes this all seems like a dream and it is unbelievable! I am so happy I did this I will never forget.
